Description

When we imagine Manitoba’s great white North, most of us envision whipping black waters in the Hudson Bay, dense forest, magnificent polar bears and beluga whales, and dancing northern lights. The natural landscape is of course, unique in the world, attracting travellers from around the globe, and fueling a massive tourism industry that contributes millions to our province’s economy. There is so much more.

Burgeoning Indigenous tourism, artistic markets, and culinary experiences; critical mineral deposits essential to our country’s transition to green energy; cold weather testing for vehicles and jet engines; plant protein production occurring throughout the province with a mission to feed the world sustainably; a diverse and willing local workforce with direct access to innovative training and skills development facilities; and a location at the base of an untapped global transport route.

And the most significant – there are people there with vision and commitment, whose love for the region and unrelenting optimism is unleashing and driving economic opportunity. Manitoba’s North is resource-rich, culturally-diverse, and poised for greater possibilities, and there is something special happening there. Join us on December 14 at our upcoming MBiz Breakfast presented by 6P Marketing to hear from expert panelists in a moderated discussion.

Panelists include:
- Michael Woelcke, Arctic Gateway Group
- Becky Cianflone, Community Futures Greenstone & Chair, UCN
- Christian Sinclair, Opaskwayak Cree Nation
- Philip Gross, Snow Lake Lithium

Manitoba is located on Treaty 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Territories and includes travel through communities who are signatories to Treaties 6 and 10. Manitoba is located on the ancestral land of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and Nehethowuk Nations, and is the Homeland of the Red River Métis. Northern Manitoba includes lands that were and are the ancestral lands of the Inuit.

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce respects the spirit and intent of Treaties and Treaty Making and remains committed to working in partnership with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in the spirit of truth, reconciliation and collaboration. Acknowledging these original caretakers is a reminder of our unique heritage, our important relationships, and our obligations to and shared responsibilities with Indigenous peoples.
