MLT Aikins | The Future of Constructi...

Description

Manitoba’s new Prompt Payment law takes effect April 1, outlining new rules for both contractors and project owners.

Many in the construction industry—including project owners spanning government and private industry alike—need to fully understand the implications that this new law will bring.

Join MLT Aikins for an interactive, conversation-style breakfast seminar to fully understand the prompt payment amendments to The Builder’s Liens Act.

The seminar will explore the purpose of prompt payment, the types of contracts impacted by this new law, and the various timelines laid out for owners, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.

Attendees will learn the requirements for a proper invoice to trigger payment obligations, what happens if a payment is disputed, and how the new interim adjudication process works. They will also learn how prompt payment has worked in other provinces and what the new deadlines are to register or serve a builders’ lien in Manitoba.

Learn how to prepare your business for these changes.

Panellists:

  • Daryl Chicoine
  • Baillie Chisick
  • John Martens
  • Tyler Kochanski (moderator)

Manitoba is located on Treaty 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Territories and includes travel through communities who are signatories to Treaties 6 and 10. Manitoba is located on the ancestral land of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and Nehethowuk Nations, and is the Homeland of the Red River Métis. Northern Manitoba includes lands that were and are the ancestral lands of the Inuit.

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce respects the spirit and intent of Treaties and Treaty Making and remains committed to working in partnership with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in the spirit of truth, reconciliation and collaboration. Acknowledging these original caretakers is a reminder of our unique heritage, our important relationships, and our obligations to and shared responsibilities with Indigenous peoples.
