John Bockstael, P.Eng., ICD.D, GSC
As Chairman of Bockstael Construction, John Bockstael brings nearly five decades of experience in building not just structures, but opportunities.
Since joining the family business in 1985, he has been at the helm of Bockstael Construction as it transformed into one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, a Top 40 Canadian Contractor, and a leader in Construction Management in Manitoba.
He is a relentless advocate for innovation, education, and inclusion – championing trades as a respected career path, opening doors for women in trades and engineering, and emphasizing the construction industry’s vital role in supporting Manitoba’s economic growth.
In recent years, John has embraced new challenges as he transitioned from CEO of his family’s 113-year-old Manitoba-based company. Yet, his commitment to strengthening our province remains unwavering. As Honourary Consul to Belgium, John serves as a key local contact for the Belgian Ambassador, fostering trade relationships and enhancing economic ties between Manitoba and Belgium.
Dedicated to continuous improvement, John has focused on training future generations of skilled tradespeople while using his expertise to shape the construction industry. As Chair of the Canadian Construction Association and a founding member and Chair of both Canadian Construction Innovations and the University of Manitoba Friends of Engineering, he has left a legacy on the industry - not only here in Manitoba but across the country.
Equally passionate about his community, John serves on several non-profit boards and community initiatives, including the Winnipeg Art Gallery, St. Boniface Street Links, and the fundraising committee for the Toba Centre for Children and Youth. His belief in giving back is woven into every aspect of his work and leadership.
John’s remarkable contributions have been recognized with prestigious honors such as the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, reflecting a career built on vision, perseverance, and a profound commitment to people and progress. His story is one of transformation, resilience, and unwavering dedication to building a stronger future for the province.
