Description

Beginning January 1, 2027, Manitoba’s land transfer tax will apply to certain acquisitions and increases in beneficial interests in land, including some transactions where legal title does not change.

These changes may have significant implications for real estate transactions, corporate reorganizations, partnerships, trusts and investment structures. They will also introduce new compliance and reporting obligations for affected organizations.

Join MLT Aikins taxation lawyers for a practical discussion of the expanded regime. You will learn what is changing, how the new rules may apply and what planning considerations should be addressed for upcoming transactions involving land in Manitoba.

Manitoba is located on Treaty 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Territories and includes travel through communities who are signatories to Treaties 6 and 10. Manitoba is located on the ancestral land of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and Nehethowuk Nations, and is the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. Northern Manitoba includes lands that were and are the ancestral lands of the Inuit.

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce respects the spirit and intent of Treaties and Treaty Making and remains committed to working in partnership with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in the spirit of truth, reconciliation and collaboration. Acknowledging these original caretakers is a reminder of our unique heritage, our important relationships, and our obligations to and shared responsibilities with Indigenous peoples.
