Description

Beyond the Sick Note: Turning Manitoba’s New Legislation into Better Attendance & Return‑to‑Work Practices

Manitoba’s sick note rules are shifting, but rules alone don’t change behaviour and updating a policy isn’t the same as changing what managers do day-to-day. This webinar focuses on what employers need to do now to manage short‑term illness absences confidently without defaulting to sick notes, while building an attendance culture grounded in trust, clarity, and consistency. We’ll also cover what changes when absences extend: practical disability management and return‑to‑work planning, including what information is appropriate to request, along with practical steps that help teams return to work safely and sustainably while handling medical information confidentially.

Manitoba is located on Treaty 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Territories and includes travel through communities who are signatories to Treaties 6 and 10. Manitoba is located on the ancestral land of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and Nehethowuk Nations, and is the Homeland of the Red River Métis. Northern Manitoba includes lands that were and are the ancestral lands of the Inuit.

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce respects the spirit and intent of Treaties and Treaty Making and remains committed to working in partnership with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in the spirit of truth, reconciliation and collaboration. Acknowledging these original caretakers is a reminder of our unique heritage, our important relationships, and our obligations to and shared responsibilities with Indigenous peoples.
